Poets Corner Reading Series

ABOUT

ABOUT POETS CORNER…

Poets Corner Reading Series is a Vancouver-based monthly series that showcases west coast poets, and, when the opportunity arises, poets from other parts of the country.

Live/hybrid readings take place on the third Wednesday of the month and normally feature at least two talented poets coupled with an open mic segment. If you’re new to Poets Corner, you’ll be given an absurdly warm welcome. We’d love for you to join us.

The events are 1.5 to 2 hours, and we start at 7:30 p.m (PT).

From time to time, we also host book launches and themed readings. Occasionally we have a themed night, such as Emerging Indigenous Poets, Work Poetry, and Ecopoetry.

We are run by a non-profit Society of 6 active and committed volunteers.

We rely heavily on generous donations from our enthusiastic audience members and poetry fans. We are also grateful for the occasional grant and reading fees from the Canada Council, the League of Canadian Poets, and The Writers’ Union of Canada. In 2021, we were fortunate to win second prize in the annual Pavlick Poetry Prize which helped to add much needed financial assistance. Other than covering essential costs, all funding we receive goes towards honoraria for our featured poets.

We also run the innovative and popular One Minute Poem project.

Each week we post a video recording of a poet reading one of their poems. The poem has to clock in at under 60 seconds and we then upload it to our YouTube channel. as well as all of our social media channels.
